DURHAM, N.C. – Loyola University Maryland men's golf sits in 12
th place after 36 holes at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational at the Duke University Golf Club on Saturday.
The Greyhounds shot nearly identical rounds of 298 and 299 in the first and second with three golfers amongst the top-50 at the event.
Brandon Berry had an even-par 72 in the opening round before a 1-over 73 in the second to tie for 25
th individually after two rounds.
Carlo Pizzano and
Mike Crowley, who is making his collegiate debut at the tournament, are tied for 49
th with matching totals of 5-over 149 after 36 holes.
Pizzano opened with a 1-over 73 in the morning before slipping to a 3-over 76 in the afternoon; meanwhile Crowley fired rounds of 75 and 74, finishing his second with a birdie on the 430-yard par-4 second hole.
Matt Malits came back from an opening-round 6-over 78 to shoot two strokes better in the second, buoyed by an even-par front nine at the 7,154-yard, par-72 course.
Turner Foster rounded out the Greyhounds' five at the tournament with scores of 82 and 83 on Saturday.
North Carolina leads the tournament at 25-under, while North Carolina State is eight shots back.
The Greyhounds and the other teams will conclude the 54-hole event on Sunday with the final 18.
