DURHAM, N.C. – Loyola University Maryland men's golf moved up two spots in the team standings during the final round, shooting its best 18-hole score of the three-round tournament.
Brandon Berry and
Carlo Pizzano each shot 1-under 71s on Sunday to close the tournament amongst the top-30 individuals with the Greyhounds' best individual scores of the weekend.
Berry made the turn to his back nine – Loyola started on the 10
th hole Sunday – at 1-over, but birdies on the fourth, sixth and seventh holes brought him to 2-under for the round. A bogey on the eighth hole, his 17
th, and a par on the ninth gave him a 1-under 71 on Sunday to place 21
st overall at even-par for the tournament.
Pizzano had a bogey free final nine holes, birding the fourth and ninth holes to close Sunday at 1-under, as well. He finished tied for 29
th overall at 4-over during the 534 holes.
Mike Crowley made his collegiate debut at the tournament and shot rounds of 75, 74 and 75 to tie for 45
th at 8-over par.
Matt Malits tied for 69
th overall and
Turner Foster was 81
st for the Greyhounds.
Loyola began the day on the par-72, 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Club course in 12
th place after rounds of 298 and 299 Saturday. They surpassed Nebraska and East Carolina to move into the top-10 overall, three shots behind North Carolina Wilmington.
North Carolina won the event, followed by North Carolina State and the host Blue Devils.
The Greyhounds return to North Carolina for their next competition. They will take part in the two-day, three-round Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Wake Forest on Monday and Tuesday, September 27-28.
