Tempert’s OT Winner Sends Women’s Soccer Past Colgate in Patriot League Opener

BALTIMORE – Ada Clare Tempert directed in a cross 1:51 into overtime, as Loyola University Maryland kicked off the Patriot League portion of its schedule with a 2-1 victory over Colgate on Saturday.

Jess Korman and Baylee DeSmit assisted on Tempert's game-winner for the Greyhounds (4-4-1, 1-0-0 Patriot League), who topped the Raiders (4-4-0, 0-1-0) for a second-straight season. Kaleigh Gallagher's first goal of the fall opened the scoring for the home side late in the first half.

Tempert now leads the team with three goals overall on the year. Korman began the play by leading DeSmit on a run down the left side. DeSmit then dribbled towards the box and sent a cross which Tempert deflected straight into the lower-right corner.

Korman picked up her first collegiate point on the play, while DeSmit (2 G, 1 A) now has five points in her debut season.

Gallagher scored seconds after entering the game as a substitute in the opening half. Alex Searing and Kelly Hutton both assisted on the play, with Hutton leading Gallagher on a breakaway just past midfield. Gallagher fired the ball past a charging Grace Poncsak into the right corner for her third goal at Loyola with 1:10 remaining before the intermission.

Adrienne Vaughn equalized for Colgate in the 57th minute, firing a long-distance effort into the top left corner. That was the only blemish against Loyola's Paige Sim, who made all three of her saves in the second half while holding a Patriot League opponent to one goal or fewer for an 18th-consecutive game.

The teams were even in both shots (10-10) and corner kicks (4-4) on the afternoon. The Raiders finished with a slim 54%-46% advantage in possession.

Loyola closes out a stretch of three-straight home games on Wednesday, hosting two-time defending Patriot League champions Navy at 7 p.m.
