BALTIMORE – Caitlin Doran opened the scoring in the 28th minute, and Kassidy Borden added an insurance strike with 15:03 remaining in regulation to help Navy top Loyola University Maryland by a 2-0 final at Ridley Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
The Midshipmen (5-4-1, 1-1-0 PL) rebound from a 4-2 defeat to Bucknell over the weekend, while the Greyhounds (4-5-1, 1-1-0 PL) drop their second home contest of the season.
Doran's opening strike, her team-leading fifth of the season, came immediately after she entered the game as a substitute. She deflected a corner kick from Sadie McCaleb straight into the right edge of the goal.
Borden put the visitors up by two in the 75th minute, sending a long distance free kick which bounced under the crossbar and in for her first goal of the season. Navy's Mattie Gallagher registered a clean sheet without needing to make a save.
Kelly Hutton led Loyola offensively with a pair of shots.
Paige Sim made three stops in goal, as she surrendered multiple goals to a Patriot League opponent for the first time in 19 conference games.
Navy finished the night with a 12-5 in shots, while the Greyhounds earned seven of the game's 10 corner kicks.
Loyola looks to rebound over the weekend, traveling to Army West Point for a 7 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
