WEST POINT, N.Y. –
Sarah Mirr went coast-to-coast while scoring her second goal of the season in the 15th minute, and
Paige Sim matched a season high with seven saves during a 1-1 draw for Loyola University Maryland at Army West Point on Saturday.
The Greyhounds (4-5-2, 1-1-1 PL) earn the program's first-ever point at Army and now have four points through three conference games on the year. Trinity Garay equalized off a corner kick for the Black Knights (4-4-3, 1-0-2 PL) in the 51st minute.
Mirr's effort, her second goal of the year, started well inside Loyola's defensive zone. She raced through the midfield, maneuvered around an Army defender and blasted a shot from outside the box into the left corner to put the Greyhounds in front. Mirr now has six points (2 G, 2 A) this season, tying her with
Ada Clare Tempert for the team lead.
The Black Knights had a 7-2 lead in shots in the first half, and they kept up the pressure after the intermission. Garay gained possession 5:44 into the second half after a failed clear from a Loyola defender and sent a shot into the top left corner to tie the score.
Neither side was able to find a goal for the rest of regulation, sending the Greyhounds back to overtime for a fourth time in the last six games.
The visitors had the top two chances to score in the extra sessions.
Baylee DeSmit had a chip over the goalkeeper cleared on the goal line by Army defender Andrea Riddle in the closing seconds of the first overtime, and
Kaleigh Gallagher had a shot inside the box stopped by a charging Sage Strohman in goal in the 103rd minute.
Sim managed seven saves for a second time this season, matching her total from a non-conference game at Princeton on August 27.
MK Barnes and
Chloe Kuminkoski both played all 110 minutes on the backline to help Loyola secure the draw.
The Greyhounds are back at Ridley Athletic Complex next weekend, hosting Lafayette in a Patriot League matchup beginning at 2 p.m.
