Men’s Lacrosse Welcomes 10 Newcomers To Program

BALTIMORE ­– Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse welcomed its 10 newcomers to the program on Thursday as first-year students moved onto the Evergreen campus for the 2021-22 academic year.
 
The 10 freshmen will join the locker room when fall conditioning and practices begin for the Greyhounds: Joey Annetta (Holly Springs, N.C./Holly Springs), Michael Callahan (Darien, Conn./Avon Old Farms), Tyler Conklin (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal), Matt Dixon (Ellicott City, Md./Loyola Blakefield), Dylan Farley (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster Schools), Joe Houlihan (Brightwaters, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Ryan McGorry (Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's/Salisbury School), Diego Roman (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), Jacob Sullivan (Wells, Maine/Kennebunk) and Patrick Yowan (Darien, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall).

Joey Annetta
Defense
Holly Springs, N.C. • Holly Springs

 
Before Loyola: Graduated from Holly Springs High School where he was a seven-time letterwinner, picking up four in lacrosse and three in football… Two-time team captain in lacrosse and football… Totaled 118 ground balls and 48 caused turnovers during his career… Caused 15 turnovers and had 36 ground balls as a senior in 2021 as he earned All-Conference First Team recognition and Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors… Named the High School OT Lacrosse Player of the Year in North Carolina and was also named to the All-Region and All-State teams… Received the North Carolina High School Administration Tony Cullen Memorial Award and was a Bull City All-Star participant… Named to the All-Conference First Team, All-Region and All-State teams as a sophomore in 2019… Member of the Triangle Lax All-Freshman Team in 2019… Helped Holly Springs to the state semifinals in 2021 as a senior… Three-time Academic All-Conference honoree… Was a three-year starter in football, earning all-conference honors all three seasons (twice as a strong safety as a sophomore and junior and later as a linebacker following his senior season)… Played club lacrosse for the Richmond Hawks… Was a NXT Baltimore All-Star in 2018 and 2019 and was named to the Inside Lacrosse Invitational All-Tournament Team in 2020… Earned an invitation to the Under Armour Call Back Academy in 2020.. Recipient of the 2021 Wendy's High School Heisman Award for Holly Springs and was the U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award recipient and Holly Springs High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2020.
 
Personal: Son of Jennifer and Leonard Annetta… Has an older sister, Samantha… Both of his parents played sports at Salisbury University where his mom was a field hockey player and his dad a football student-athlete… His father is a Distinguished Professor at East Carolina University.
 
 
Michael Callahan
Midfield
Darien, Conn. • Avon Old Farms

 
Before Loyola: Graduated from Avon Old Farms School where he played lacrosse, hockey and football…. Had 11 goals and 15 assists during an abbreviated senior season in 2021… Had five goals and 10 assists during his sophomore year of 2019… Helped Avon Old Farms win the Founders League Championship as a sophomore… Was team captain of the hockey team as a junior… Played club for …Eclipse Lacrosse Club.
 
Personal: Son of Kara and Mike Callahan… Has two younger sisters, Jacqueline and Ella… Father played hockey and lacrosse at St. Anselm.
 
 
Tyler Conklin

Before Loyola: Graduated from Episcopal High School where he competed in lacrosse, football, soccer and track and field… Member of the Episcopal team that won the 2021 VISAA State Championship… Played club for Amped Lacrosse.
 
Personal: Son of Michele and Scott Conklin… Has two siblings, Logan and Cameron… Father is the head coach at Episcopal and played lacrosse at Princeton from 1991-95 and was a member of the NCAA Championship teams in 1992 and 1994.
 
 
Matt Dixon

Before Loyola: Graduated from Loyola Blakefield High School where he played both lacrosse and soccer… Recipient of the C. Markland Kelly Award from Loyola Blakefield in 2021 after scoring 13 goals and 23 assists… Also named the winner of Loyola Blakefield's Rev. Anthony J. Zeits S.J. Award… Team captain… Played club for Crabs Lacrosse.
 
Personal: Son of Erica and Mark Dixon… Has a younger brother, Owen… Member of the National Honor Society at Loyola Blakefield… Both of his parents played lacrosse at Johns Hopkins… Father is a lacrosse commentator for ESPN, the Big Ten Network and Inside Lacrosse.
 
 
Dylan Farley
Faceoff Specialist
Marietta, Ga. • The Westminster Schools

 
Before Loyola: Graduated from The Westminster Schools of Atlanta where he was a six-time letterwinner between football (two) and lacrosse (four)… Won 77 percent (958 of 1,248) faceoffs in high school… Scored 74 goals and had 32 assists… Set the Georgia state record for career faceoff wins… Named to the Georgia High School Association All-State team twice and was an All-American, as well… Helped The Westminster Schools win the 2019 Georgia A-5A state title… Played club for Thunder LB3 and Mad Dog National… Was a Maverick Showtime All-Star and Under Armour Underclass All-American… Also earned NLF National All-Star and Adrenaline Challenge All-Tournament honors in addition to NLF Summer Opener Standout honors.
 
Personal: Son of Colleen and Tim Farley… Has three older siblings, Tim, Callie and John… member of Christian Life Committee all four years of high school… National Honor Society… Four-time honor roll student and member of Feeding The Homeless Project, Inc.
 
 
Joe Houlihan

Before Loyola: Graduated from St. Anthony's High School where he played lacrosse, basketball and football… Earned All-League honors and was named the Coaches' Defensive Player of the Year… Helped St. Anthony's win the league title in 2021… Member of back-to-back league champions in basketball as a freshman and sophomore… Played club for Express Lacrosse.
 
Personal: Son of Suzanne and John Houlihan… Has three siblings, Connor, Katherine and John.
 
 
Ryan McGorry

Buffalo, N.Y. • St. Joseph's • Salisbury School

 
Before Loyola: Graduated from St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in 2020 and then did a postgraduate year at the Salisbury School… Played hockey, lacrosse and squash and was a varsity player all five years… In three years of lacrosse at St. Joseph's, he scored 103 goals and he added 20 more at Salisbury… Tallied 50 goals as a junior in 2019 and 29 the year prior… Named to the Under Armour All-America Watch List… Team's Most Improved Player in 2019… Helped St. Joseph's finish as the New York State Catholic runners-up four years in a row… Played club lacrosse for Sweetlax.
 
Personal: Son of Pam and Mike McGorry… Has four siblings, Paige, Shannon, Erin and Clare… Father played professional squash.

Before Loyola: Graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School where he played lacrosse, basketball and football… Over four years in lacrosse, totaled 179 ground balls… As a senior, had 81 ground balls and 63 caused turnovers, scoring seven goals on the offensive end… In just three games in the shortened 2020 season, had a goal, 13 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers… Scored three times and had 57 ground balls in 2019 and picked up 28 as a freshman in 2018… Earned All-State First Team honors in 2019 and 2021… Named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2021 as a senior… Helped Cardinal Gibbons win the state titles in 2019 and 2021, as well as conference championships in 2018, 2019 and 2021… Member of football conference title teams in 2017 and 2018 and was the team's offensive Most Valuable Player in 2018… Played club for Carolina Cannons and Bucktown… Played AAU basketball for Triangle Flight, Carolina Elite and Ceba.

Jacob Sullivan

Before Loyola: Graduated from Kennebunk High School where he won eight varsity letters between lacrosse, football and hockey… In three lacrosse seasons, scored 81 goals and had 39 assists… Tallied 21 goals and seven assists as a senior in 2021 after pouring in 42 and 17 as a sophomore in 2019… Earned All-Conference honors three times, was a two-time Maine All-Star and Team Most Valuable Player… Earned US Lacrosse All-America honors in 2021… Received All-Academic recognition three times and was the team's Rookie of the Year in 2018… Was a two-time Under Armour All-American Helped Kennebunk's football team to an undefeated season and two Western Maine finals… Member of football team that set records for points in a season and in a game… Helped the lacrosse team reach the playoffs twice… Earned All- Conference honors in football and was named the National Football Foundation Vandersea Scholar-Athlete Award as the scholastic player who excels in football performance, academic achievement and school leadership… Earned all-conference honors in hockey… Recipient of the Jake Jackson Award as the Male Athlete of the Year… Played club for the New Hampshire Tomahawks, 207 and ASW.

Before Loyola: Graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall School where he played lacrosse and hockey… Had a saves percentage of 60 percent or higher all four years of varsity lacrosse… Team captain as a junior and senior… Two-time All New England West 1 selection… Received the Robert Award '64 Award for excellence in lacrosse as a senior… Helped Choate Rosemary Hall finish 12-4 as a sophomore with a second-place finish in the Founders League… Played club for Eclipse Lacrosse Club… Named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Naptown Lacrosse Challenge.
 
Personal: Son of Cynthia and David Yowan… Has four older siblings, Michael, Christopher, Steven and Vivian.
