TOWSON, Md. –
Abby Hamilton had 19 kills with just one error, helping Loyola University Maryland hit .368 as it swept College of the Holy Cross, 25-13, 25-9, 25-23, at SECU Arena for its eighth-straight victory.
The win raised Loyola's record to 11-3 this season, its best-ever through 14 matches; the Greyhounds are also 3-0 in the Patriot League for the first time since joining the conference in 2013.
Hamilton's strong performance came as she hit .462 individually and the Greyhounds had just seven hitting errors and were not blocked by the Crusaders (1-13 overall, 0-3).
Loyola made quick work of the first set as both Hamilton and
Lauren Link finished the frame with eight kills and zero errors, each on only 12 swings.
The second stanza was even faster as Loyola sided out at a 90 percent clip and Holy Cross managed only three kills while committing six hitting errors. The Crusaders, however, climbed back into contention in the third, leading the entire set until Loyola took its first lead at 21-20 on a
Rose McDermott service ace.
Holy Cross regained the lead at 23-22, but three Loyola freshman had the match's final three points to close the victory.
Kacy Sekunda had a tip for a kill,
Sophie Brenner served an ace, and
Maya Dudockin drove a kill down the right side for the final point.
Sekunda had 34 assists to go with 15 digs, four kills and a team-high four blocks.
Link tallied nine kills, Brenner seven and
Cat Vaccaro had six.
Corinne Filograna matched her career-high with 24 digs in the match as Loyola had 65 while holding Holy Cross to a .129 hitting percentage.
