WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
Brandon Berry shot an even-par 70 Tuesday to finish the Old Town Club Collegiate 3-under and in a tie for 19
th place at the tournament that included nine teams ranked in
Golfweek's top-100 nationally.
The graduate student had rounds of 72-65-70 in the 54-hole event to record his seventh top-20 finish in his last nine collegiate tournaments.
As a team, the Greyhounds finished 14
th with a three-round total of 8-over 848, shooting 287 as a squad on Tuesday.
Matt Malits rounded out a strong tournament with a 1-under par 69, birding the fifth hole – his 14
th of the day – before recording pars on the last four holes of the tournament. He finished the tournament at 1-under, tying for 29
th, after shooting even par 70s during both rounds Monday.
Carlo Pizzano finished his final nine holes even on Tuesday and shot 3-over for the 18 holes to close in a tie for 62
nd at 7-over.
Connor McGarrity was a stroke behind in his collegiate debut, shooting 5-over Tuesady to round out the 54 holes in a tie for 68
th at 8-over.
Brett Inserra shot 9-over during the tournament, 5-over on Tuesday, and tied for 70
th.
Host Wake Forest won the event at 35-under, while Southern Mississippi was second at 21-under.
The Greyhounds head to East Hampton, New York, for their next event where they will host the Hamptons Intercollegiate at Maidstone Club October 4-5.
