BALTIMORE –
Kelan Swales totaled a career-high five points, and
Jordan Wiley netted his first goal of the season in the first half during a dominant 3-0 victory for Loyola University Maryland over William & Mary on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds (3-3-2) snap an 11-game winless run in the series, posting their first victory over the Tribe (2-4-0) since 1998 in convincing fashion. Wiley, who had the primary assist on Swales' first goal in the second half, also set a career best with three points, while
Justin Ingram added a pair of helpers for the home side.
Loyola controlled the game throughout, ending the night with a 13-4 edge in shots and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks. Swales and Ingram set up what turned out to be the game-winner for Wiley in the 23rd minute, as a cross from the right side was deflected by goalkeeper Will Stack off Wiley and into the back of the net.
Swales, who was robbed of a goal by Stack in the opening half, needed just 1:18 to double the advantage after the intermission. Ingram found Wiley on the right side, and he dished the ball to Swales with a perfect back-heel touch. The senior from Leeds, England, then blasted the ball into the top corner to make it 2-0.
Albert Kang and
Loc San had the assists on Loyola's final strike in the 61st minute. This time it was a tap-in for Swales on the line following a well-placed cross by San from the right side. The Greyhounds' three goals on the night were a new season high.
Chase Vosvick needed to make just one save, on a strong diving effort in the 58th minute, to secure the clean sheet in goal for Loyola. He is now 3-2-1 on the year with a miniscule 0.48 goals-against average and a .864 save percentage.
The Greyhounds return to conference play on Saturday, traveling to New England for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with Boston University. The game will be played at Northeastern University's Parsons Field.
