Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – College of the Holy Cross used a 20-0 run that spanned the late third quarter and first five-plus minutes of the fourth to pull away from Loyola University Maryland women's basketball for a 63-48 Patriot League win on Monday night.
Loyola took a 35-32 lead with 5:56 to play in the third quarter on a
Bri Rozzi three, and the Greyhounds were within three at the end of the stanza, 45-42, before Holy Cross's run.
Charia Roberts had a team-high 10 points, including the first four of the second half. Rozzi then had a layup off a
Taleah Dixon assist, and
Lex Therien's offensive rebound and putback tied the score at 32-32, erasing an eight-point Holy Cross lead at the half.
Rozzi then extended the run to 11-0 with her three before the Crusaders would respond with eight-straight points to go up 40-35.
Therien kicked out a pass to
Keegan Douglas on the left side for a three at 2:31, drawing Loyola back within three, and Dixon drove the right side of the lane to get fouled with 1:47 remaining. She made both free throws, and the game was tied again at 40-40.
Holy Cross regained the advantage, 43-40, with a traditional 3-point play by Janelle Allen 16 ticks of the clock later, but
Ava Therien grabbed an offensive board and scored at 1:13 to make it a two-point game. That basket, however, marked the last Loyola points until
Lex Therien made one of two at the free-throw line with 4:07 to go in regulation.
The Greyhounds did not allow a Crusaders point for the last 4:28 of the game, but the 20-0 run had secured the win.
In addition to Roberts' 10 points,
Lex Therien scored nine and Douglas had eight off the bench.
Lex Therien matched her career-high with 15 rebounds, her fifth-straight game with 10 or more boards. Dixon tied her career-best with five assists, a season-high.
Loyola continues its three-game road trip on Wednesday, January 19, with a 6 p.m. game at Boston University.
