BALTIMORE – With temperatures dipping into the teens across the Baltimore area, the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams moved indoors Friday night and swept St. Bonaventure University in a pair of matches.
The women's team edged the Bonnies, 4-3, while the men were 5-2 victors at Coppermine Racquet and Fitness Club.
Lauren Manwiller and
Jessica Bodewes outlasted Emily Stanley and Anastasia Gubanova, 6-4, to pick up a win at No. 2 doubles, securing the point after
Abby Decker and
Genevieve Wurtz were 6-2 winners at No. 3 against Alexandria Jansson and Paula Veilla.
Bodewes, Decker and
Sandra Aguirre were then winners in singles as the Greyhounds came away with the win.
Bodewes beat Stanley, 6-4,6 -2, at No. 4, and Decker topped Andrea Rogue, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot. Aguirre then eased to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Amara Young at No. 6.
In the men's match,
Edik Pribitkin and
Matt Cardano picked up a 6-4 victory over Ethan Nguyen and Luke Reimann at No. 2, earning the point after
Colin Corsini and
Oliver Davey were winners by default at No. 3.
Cardano rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, (12-10) win over Reimann at No. 3 singles, and
George Cavo defeated Nguyen, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4.
Liam Rompere beat Filip Morawski, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5, and
Ryan Boland was a winner by default at No. 6 singles.
The matches were a dip into competition for the Greyhounds this spring. They will resume practice until playing their next intercollegiate match on Saturday, February 26, at Howard University.
