Howard Sweeps Tennis Teams In Saturday Indoor Matches

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jessica Bodewes and Liam Rompere won singles matches for the Loyola University Maryland women's and men's tennis teams on Saturday, but the Greyhounds lost 5-2 and 5-1 to host Howard University at the Washington Tennis & Education Center East Capital Center.
 
Bodewes was a 6-0, 6-3 winner against Alexandra Blackwell at No. 3 singles for the women, while Rompere defeated Gabe Knowles, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 on the men's side.
 
Edik Pribitkin and Matt Cardano took a 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles against Troy Bailey and Marcel Dawson for the men's team.
 
Howard opened the women's match with a trio of doubles victories. Jordan Grayson and Sifa Butcher beat Olivia Tracey and Anna Rico, 6-0, at No. 1, and Nadia Pegram and Yemisi topped Lauren Manwiller and Bodewes, 6-3, at No. 2. Kendall Addison and Alexandra Blackwell topped Sandra Aguirre and Genevieve Wurtz, 6-4, at No. 3.
 
Pribitkin and Cardano won their doubles contest, but the Bison earned the point with wins at No. 1 and 3. Justin Cadeau and Daniel Dunac beat Skyler Gates and George Cavo, 6-3, in the top flight, while Kyle Martin and Knowles were 6-4 winners at three.
 
Cadeau used straight-sets to beat Gates, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Bailey edged Pribitkin, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 2. Dunac defeated Cardano, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3, and Dawson beat Cavo, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4. Ryan Boland and Martin each won one of the first two sets, but their match was unfinished at the time of the team contest's completion.
 
Grayson beat Tracey, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, and Butcher got past Manwiller, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.
 
Anna Rico won the first set, 7-6, over Nadia Pegram, but Pegram rallied for 6-2, 6-3 wins in the next two at No. 3. Hana El Sherif had matching 6-2 set wins against Aguirre at No. 5. Wurtz defeated Addison, 6-3, in the first set, but the match was also unfinished.
