BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland tennis teams battled the wind under sunny skies at the McClure Tennis Center on Sunday, coming out of the afternoon with a pair of wins against Norfolk State University.
The men's team posted a 6-1 win, while the women edged the Spartans, 4-3.
Loyola's women took advantage of the early doubles point in the match.
Olivia Tracey and
Anna Rico won the No. 1 doubles match against Aleksandra Evdokimov and Laura Ruiz, 6-3. The No. 2 team of
Lauren Manwiller and
Jessica Bodewes got past Amber Fuller and Breana Cook, 6-4, and
Sandra Aguirre and
Genevieve Wurtz defeated Andrea Barcenas and Zada McMorris, 6-1, at No. 3.
Bodewes, Aguirre and Wurtz were then winners in singles play.
Bodewes topped Ruiz, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4, and Augirre was a 6-2, 6-4 winner against Barcenas in the fifth flight. Wurtz swept Grant, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.
On the men's side, the Greyhounds won all three doubles matches by default scores, and
Liam Rompere and
Ryan Boland picked up singles victories by virtue of defaults at No. 5 and 6 singles.
Edik Pribitkin topped Ibrahim Abbas, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, while
Matt Cardano and
George Cavo swept their competition. Cardano was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Roosevelt Brown III at No. 3, and Cavo beat Jeremiah Zellander by the same score at No. 4. Norfolk State got its point in the match as Frederick Rebecchini defeated
Skyler Gates, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
