BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's
Edik Pribitkin used a three-set thriller to post the deciding point Tuesday as the Greyhounds' men's tennis team beat visiting Chestnut Hill College, 4-3, at the McClure Tennis Center. The women's team completed the sweep of the Griffins, winning 7-0.
Pribitkin won the opening set, 6-4, against Chestnut Hill's Noah Cutting, and but the Griffins' No. 2 player came back to win the second, 6-3. Pribitkin rallied to post a decisive win in the third, clinching the team match with a 6-3 frame.
The Loyola men scored all of its team points in singles action as the Griffins won all three doubles contests to secure a 1-0 lead in the match.
Skyler Gates beat Tom Pitchley, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, and
Ryan Boland used scores of 6-2 and 6-0 for a win against Mark Gladkyy at No. 6.
Matt Cardano then won, 6-4, 6-4, against Joseph Gregory Kvint at No. 3 to provide the other point.
Joao Sousa and Domagoj Dugandzic both had wins for Chestnut Hill at No. 4 and 5, respectively, in super-tiebreakers. Sousa edged
George Cavo, 6-4, 4-6, (10-7), and Dugandzic got past
Liam Rompere, 6-2, 2-6, (10-8).
In the women's match,
Lauren Manwiller and
Genevieve Wurtz beat Chestnut Hill's Nele Haag and Annika Wise, 6-4, at No. 2 singles to pick up the early point after
Abby Decker and
Sandra Aguirre won by default at No. 3.
Olivia Tracey was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 1 singles against Carlota Garcia, and Manwiller beat Haag, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2.
Anna Rico bested Wise, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot, and
Abby Decker was a 6-0, 6-3 winner against Romi Meirovich at No. 4. Aguirre defeated Gianna Vassalluzzo , 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5, and Wurtz won by default at No. 6.
The women's team is back in action on Friday, March 18, against New Jersey City University, and both teams start Patriot League matches the following day when they host Lehigh University at 1 p.m.
