Cardano Scores Singles Win, But Tennis Teams Fall To Lehigh

BALTIMORE – Matt Cardano had a three-set singles win on Saturday to pick up a point for the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team, but visiting Lehigh University defeated the Greyhounds, 6-1, at the McClure Tennis Center.
 
Loyola's women lost, 5-2, with its two points against the Mountain Hawks coming in defaulted singles matches.
 
Cardano took a 6-1 setback to Lehigh's Matt Kleiman in the first set of the No. 3 singles match, but he came back to win the second stanza, 7-6 (5). Kleiman again forced the third set to extra points, but Cardano prevailed, 7-6 (1).
 
Lehigh won all three doubles matches for the opening point as Zack Elliott and Steven Nazaroff beat Skyler Gates and George Cavo, 6-3, at No. 1. Gary Fishkin and Marc Blekhman topped Edik Pribitkin and Cardano, 6-2, in the second spot, and Michael Bukhalo and Luke Donovan got past Oliver Davey and Colin Corsini, 6-1, at No. 3.
 
Elliott was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Gates at No. 1 singles, but Blekham edged Pribitkin in a close No. 2 match, 7-5, 7-6 (3). Fishkin was a 6-3, 6-0 winner against Cavo at No. 4, and Bukhalo beat Liam Rompere, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5. Jordan Paul closed out the lineup with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Ryan Boland at No. 6.
 
Lehigh's women won all of the contested matches on Saturday. Junmoke James and Hamsa Javagal beat Olivia Tracey and Anna Rico, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles, and Megha Dania and Anushka Dania were 7-5 winners over Lauren Manwiller and Jessica Bodewes at No. 2 Abby Decker and Genevieve Wurtz won by default at No. 3.
 
In singles play, Decker and Sandra Aguirre were winners by default at No. 5 and 6. Hamsa beat Tracey, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 1, and James got past Manwiller, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2. Megha Dania was a 6-1, 7-5 victor against Rico at No. 3, and Anushka Dania beat Bodewes, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4.
