BALTIMORE – American University held leads in each of the first two sets on Wednesday night, but Loyola University Maryland came back to win both en route to a 25-23, 26-24, 25-12 win in Reitz Arena.
Cecylia Guye had 11 kills to go with four blocks, while
Lauren Link added 14, and
Sophie Brenner tallied 11.
Ashley Dwyer passed out 39 assists and had a double-double with 10 digs.
Katie Forsythe led all players with 18 digs.
American pulled ahead by one, 21-20, in the first team on an Adelina Berisha kill, and then after the Greyhounds tied the score twice, the Eagles went up 23-22 on a Loyola attack error.
Brenner came back with a kill to tie the score, and she then locked up a block with Guye to give Loyola set-point at 24-23. Brenner put away a kill to secure the first-set win for the Greyhounds.
In the second, Loyola led 23-21, but American battled back to have a set-point opportunity at 24-23. Brenner, Kellogg and
Megan Bukala had kills to help Loyola rebound for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Guye turned it on late in the third, posting five kills in the final eight points to help Loyola hit .467 in the final set.
Loyola returns to Reitz Arena with a 4 o'clock match on Saturday, October 29, against the U.S. Naval Academy.
