BALTIMORE –
Alonso Faure scored a career-high 18 points, helping Loyola University Maryland to a 44-12 advantage in points in the paint, and the Greyhounds beat visiting Washington College, 81-53, in Reitz Arena on Thursday night.
Faure, who scored the first six points of a game in which the Greyhounds never trailed, was one of several Loyola players to log a career-high in points.
Tyson Commander made 8 of 10 free throws and knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 17 points, while
Isaiah Alexander drew his first starting assignment and scored 12 points while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.
Garrett Brennan scored nine,
Markese Redding had six points and five rebounds,
Samuel Gibbs scored three – all career-bests – and
Daraun Gray matched his high with three points.
Loyola (2-2 overall) had 14 steals for the second game in a row with Faure and
Chris Kuzemka each coming up with three.
The Greyhounds also had a season-high 23 assists, tied for the ninth-most in school history. Kuzemka,
Jaylin Andrews and
Deon Perry each had four, and
Kenneth Jones tallied three.
No Loyola player saw more than 23 minutes of action in the game, and 12 played at least nine.
The Greyhounds will start a four-game swing away from home on Monday, November 21, when they play at Clemson University in a 7 p.m. game.
