Big Day From Dixon Leads Women's Basketball to Win, First Winning Record Since 2017

Baltimore, MD -- Taleah Dixon hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, part of her game-high 26 points, to secure the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team's 60-51 win on Saturday afternoon against Delaware State.

The Greyhounds led by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets battled back to cut their deficit down to five points with 1:10 left on the clock.

On the ensuing Greyhounds possession, Meliah Van-Otoo drove baseline before passing it across to an open Dixon who knocked down her fifth three-pointer of the night.

The Greyhounds then got a pair of stops on the defensive end of the floor, and Bri Rozzi and Van-Otoo hit free throws to secure the win.

Dixon had a game-high 26 points on the afternoon; she was the lone Greyhounds player in double figures. Eight different Greyhounds scored on the afternoon, including 17 coming off the bench.

Cristina Garcia had a strong afternoon off the bench, tallying four points, four rebounds, and three assists in 27 minutes.

Van-Otoo and Rozzi had seven points each, and Lex Therien added six points.

Koi Sims had a game-high 10 rebounds, while Sims, Garcia, and Van-Otoo all had three assists.

After the Hornets jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, the Greyhounds responded with a Dixon 3-pointer and a Sims fast break steal and layup. Dixon hit her second three-pointer as they used a 10-1 run to take a 10-6 lead with 5:27 left in the first quarter.

The Greyhounds continued their momentum with layups from Emma Glezen, Rozzi, and Van-Otoo on consecutive possessions giving the Greyhounds a 18-12 lead with 1:46 remaining in the quarter.

Dixon broke a three-minute scoring drought to start the second quarter, as she drove baseline and scored on a floater. The Hornets fought back, tying the game at 26-26 with 1:57 remaining. Dixon gave the Greyhounds the lead once again as she knocked down her third 3-pointer of the game, giving Loyola a 29-26 halftime lead.

Rozzi started the second half with a 3-pointer, and after drawing a charge on the defensive end of the floor,  Glezen knocked down a short jumper as the Greyhounds led 34-28 with 7:09 remaining.

Dixon hit another jumper, and the Greyhounds took their biggest lead of the game, 41-32, with 3:01 left in the third quarter. With the quarter winding down, Garcia found Marta Espinal on a nice pass off a pick-and-roll, and the Greyhounds took a 47-34 lead heading into the fourth.
