The Matchup

  • Loyola University Maryland women's basketball closes a three-game homestand on Wednesday, February 2, when it hosts the U.S. Military Academy. The game was originally scheduled for December 30, 2021.
  • The action will stream live on ESPN+ with a 2 p.m. tipoff in Reitz Arena.

Staying In It Late

  • Loyola's win against Colgate was indicative of a trend the Greyhounds have put on the court this season. The Greyhounds have been tied, or held a lead, in the fourth quarter of 11 of their 19 games this season.

Last Time Out

  • Neither Loyola University Maryland, nor visiting Bucknell University scored in the first three-plus minutes of Saturday's Patriot League game, but the Bison got their offense going and built an 18-4 lead by the end of the first quarter, en route to a 60-45 victory.
  • The Greyhounds made just two of nine shots in the opening quarter before fine-tuning their offensive game to make nine of 17 over the next two, but the 14-point lead the Bison built was enough to get past Loyola as it outscored them in the second half.
  • Taleah Dixon scored a team-high 14 points for Loyola, and Lex Therien had her ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Loyola outscored Bucknell (15-5 overall, 6-3 Patriot League), 28-22, after halftime.
  • The teams combined to miss their first seven shots from the field before Julie Kulesza connected on a 3-pointer with 6:32 to go in the first, and Bucknell had scored 13 of the first 15 points with 2:44 to go in the frame when Carly Krsul had a layup in the paint.
  • Dixon got the margin back to 10, 23-13, just 2:37 into the second quarter, but Bucknell saw Loyola's 62.5 field-goal percentage in the second and raised it to the tune of 77.8 percent for a 38-17 lead at the break.
  • Dixon scored seven in the third quarter as Loyola outscored the Bison, 15-10, and Therien then had nine points and eight boards in the fourth.
  • Krusl led Bucknell with 14 points, matching Dixon for game-high honors.

Rookie Honors

  • Lex Therien earned her fourth Patriot League Rookie of the Week Award on Monday after averaging a double-double in two contests last week. The freshman from Marlton, New Jersey, averaged 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds to raise her season totals to 12.1 points and 10.5 rebounds through 19 outings.
Doubled Up
  • With her 10-point, 10-rebound game on January 15 against Lehigh, Lex Therien recorded her fourth-straight double-double. She is the first Loyola player to have four in a row in 11 years since Miriam McKenzie did it four games in a row from January 22-30, 2011.
  • Therien is currently on her second streak of double-doubles in three-straight games this season. During the recent stretch against American, Colgate and Bucknell, Therien has averaged 17.3 points and 12.7 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
  • This season, she has nine double-doubles, a total that ranks No. 3 in the Patriot League and 28th nationally.

Therien Among Tops In Nation In Rebounding
  • Lex Therien has made an immediate impact in her debut season, and she now leads the Greyhounds in both points (12.1) and rebounds (10.5) per game.
  • Her 10.5 rebounds per game are second in the Patriot League and are No. 27 in NCAA Division I this season. She also ranks No. 2 amongst freshmen nationally in rebounds per game, trailing only DePaul's Aneesah Morrow (13.4).
  • Per HerHoopStats.com, Therien and Morrow are the only two freshmen in Division I averaging a double-double this season, and they are two of 36 players of all years to do so.
  • Therien has grabbed 6+ rebounds in all but one contest this season, and she has 10 or more in 12 of 19 games. She has scored 10 or more points in 14 of 19 .

Dixon Second In Scoring Average
  • Taleah Dixon's 11.1 points per game are second on Loyola and rank 14th overall in the Patriot League. Dixon scored a season-high 23 points (8-16 FG, 3-7 3FG) in a Dec. 4 win over Mount St. Mary's. In the last two games, Dixon has averaged 15.5 points against Colgate and Bucknell.
  • Dixon also paces the Greyhounds in free throw percentage (87.7, 50-57). She is second among Patriot League shooters and 24th nationally in FT%.
  • Dixon is one of three team captains for Loyola this season, along with Laryn Edwards and Bri Rozzi.

'Ria Stepping Up
  • Sophomore Charia Roberts saw limited action as a freshman during the shortened 2020-2021 season, playing in 13 games and averaging 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game.
  • This season, however, Roberts has averaged 27.8 minutes per game while starting all 19 contests, and she has responded with 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
  • The Baltimore County native has scored eight or more points in nine games, and she has grabbed five or more rebounds nine times.

Using the Opportunity
  • Caramina Tañedo had played just 22 minutes over her previous seven appearances, but the sophomore made the most of extended playing time of the year to-date in the Greyhounds' Patriot League opener against Boston University.
  • She equaled those 22 minutes and scored a career-high 12 points, making four of the six 3-pointers she attempted. Her 12 points eclipsed her previous high of eight from the Greyhounds' season-opener at Niagara where she scored eight.
  • Tañedo has continued to earn more playing time for the Greyhounds and drew a season-high 36 minutes on January 22 against American. In that game, she grabbed a career-best nine rebounds.

Using The Opportunity, Part Two
  • Keegan Douglas has also seen her playing time increase over the past several games, averaging 18.5 over the last seven. She saw 16 minutes of action against Lehigh, and she tied her to-date career-high with nine points. Douglas followed that with eight points versus Holy Cross.
