The Matchup
- Loyola University Maryland women's basketball heads on the road for its penultimate road game of the 2021-2022 regular-season. The Greyhounds will play in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, against Lehigh University in a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, February 19.

Last Time Out
- Lafayette College used a 15-3 run in the first quarter to open up a 15-point gap Wednesday night over Loyola University Maryland, and the Leopards went on to a 77-61 victory over the Greyhounds in a Patriot League game.
- Devyne Newman's pull-up 15-footer 2:55 into the game made it 7-4 in Lafayette's favor, but Makayla Andrews scored just over a minute later to start the run that would stretch out the Leopards' lead.
- Claire Gallagher hit a three for Lafayette at 2:59, extending the run to 10-1 before Bri Rozzi made a left-side jumper 57 seconds later to provide the Greyhounds their first field goal in five minutes.
- Kylie Favours, however, responded with a three for the Leopards, and Gallagher converted inside the arc to make it 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- Loyola got within 11, 24-13, on a Bella Steidle 3-pointer 1:58 into the second, but Lafayette would go up 18, 42-24, at halftime.
- Favours hit another three 58 ticks into the fourth quarter, and the Lafayette lead was 20, 65-45, but Loyola would battle back to get to within 11, 65-54, on a traditional 3-point play by Lex Therien with 7:18 left in regulation.
- Abby Antognoli, who had a game-high 20 points, made a 3-pointer 11 seconds later, and the Leopards were up by at least 14 points the rest of the way.
- Therien had her 12th double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Taleah Dixon scored a team-high 14 points for the Greyhounds. Newman added nine, and Steidle had a career-high seven points.
Chart Climbing
- Freshman Lex Therien is climbing the Loyola single-season leader charts with her strong rebounding this season. Through 24 games this season, her 258 rebounds rank sixth in Loyola's single-season history.
- Her average of 10.2 rebounds per game are second-most, behind only the mark of 10.6 set in 2017-2018 by Stephanie Karcz. Therien has grabbed 80 offensive rebounds this season, tied for eighth in school history, while her 178 defensive boards are fifth.
Five Of A Kind
- Loyola's Lex Therien earned her second-consecutive Patriot League Rookie of the Week Award last Monday, her fifth such recognition this season after a double-double for the second week in a row. She scored 13.5 points and grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game in contests against Army West Point and Navy.
- Therien started the week with a 9-point, 10-rebound outing against Army West Point before she went for 18 and 10 Saturday against the Midshipmen. She also had a career-high-tying four steals at Navy.
- Entering this season, Loyola players had earned 15 Rookie of the Week Awards since the Greyhounds joined the Patriot League in 2013-14, a total that is up to 21 with Therien's Five and Laura Salmerón's one earlier this year. Five of the previous awards were bestowed upon Therien's older sister, Isabella, the 2017-18 conference Rookie of the Year.
Less Than 20
- Lex Therien became one of 18 players in NCAA Division I this season to have 23 or more points and 17 or more rebounds in a game, per HerHoopStats.com, when she posted those numbers at Colgate on February 12.
- Furthermore, she is the only Patriot League freshman to post those kind of single-game numbers since at least 2009-10 (dating back to the start of HerHoopStats.com's database).
Therien Among Tops In Nation In Rebounding
- Lex Therien has made an immediate impact in her debut season, and she now leads the Greyhounds in both points (12.6) and rebounds (10.8) per game.
- Her 10.8 rebounds per game are second in the Patriot League and are No. 21 in NCAA Division I this season. She also ranks No. 2 amongst freshmen nationally in rebounds per game, trailing only DePaul's Aneesah Morrow (13.8).
- Per HerHoopStats.com, Therien and Morrow are the only two freshmen in Division I averaging a double-double this season, and they are two of 36 players of all years to do so.
- Looking at HerHoopStats.com's advanced metrics, Therien ranks ninth out of 3,356 players in Division I in defensive rebounding rate. She has grabbed 29.4 percent of available defensive rebounds this season. Her total rebound rate is No. 18 in Division I. Therien is first in the Patriot League in both categories.
- Therien has grabbed 6+ rebounds in all but one contest this season, and she has 10 or more in 17 of 24 games. She has scored 10 or more points in 17 of 24 , as well.
Starting Suited Her
- Devyne Newman was in the Greyhounds starting five for the first time since January 17 against Army West Point, and the senior responded with her best statistical output of the season.
- Newman went 4 of 8 from the field and finished with a season-high 11 points in 25 minutes of action. She also grabbed seven rebounds, one off her previous season-best. Over the last six games, with the one against the Black Knights being the first, Newman has averaged 6.2 points.
Dixon Second In Scoring Average
- Taleah Dixon's 11.5 points per game are second on Loyola and rank 14th overall in the Patriot League. Dixon scored a season-high 23 points in a Dec. 4 win over Mount St. Mary's.
- In the Greyhounds' last seven games, Dixon is playing her best since a stretch in late November-early December. With 96 points over the last seven, she is averaging 13.7 points to go with 3.2 assists per game.
- Dixon also paces the Greyhounds in free throw percentage (87.7, 57-65). She is second among Patriot League shooters.
- Dixon is one of three team captains for Loyola this season, along with Laryn Edwards and Bri Rozzi.
Doubled Up
- With her 10-point, 10-rebound game on January 15 against Lehigh, Lex Therien recorded her fourth-straight double-double. She is the first Loyola player to have four in a row in 11 years since Miriam McKenzie did it four games in a row from January 22-30, 2011.
- Therien recently wrapped up her second stretch of double doubles in at least three in a row. During the recent stretch against American, Colgate and Bucknell, she averaged 17.3 points and 12.7 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
- This season, she has 12 double-doubles, a total that ranks No. 3 in the Patriot League and 20th nationally.
'Ria Stepping Up
- Sophomore Charia Roberts saw limited action as a freshman during the shortened 2020-2021 season, playing in 13 games and averaging 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game.
- This season, however, Roberts has averaged 26.6 minutes per game while starting all but four contests, and she has responded with 7.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
- The Baltimore County native has scored eight or more points in 10 games, and she has grabbed five or more rebounds nine times.
Using the Opportunity
- Caramina Tañedo had played just 22 minutes over her previous seven appearances, but the sophomore made the most of extended playing time of the year to-date in the Greyhounds' Patriot League opener against Boston University.
- She equaled those 22 minutes and scored a career-high 12 points, making four of the six 3-pointers she attempted. Her 12 points eclipsed her previous high of eight from the Greyhounds' season-opener at Niagara where she scored eight.
- Tañedo has continued to earn more playing time for the Greyhounds and drew a season-high 36 minutes on January 22 against American. In that game, she grabbed a career-best nine rebounds.
Edwards Returns To Lineup
- The Greyhounds got a boost to their rotation on February 2 against Army West Point when Laryn Edwards returned to the lineup after missing the previous 11 games with an injury.
- Edwards saw 13 minutes of action against the Black Knights, her first since December 4 against Mount St. Mary's, and she finished with two points and two steals. She scored six points and grabbed a season-high six boards against Holy Cross.
- Over her career, Edwards has played in 60 games, starting 36, and has averaged 4.4 points and 1.8 assists per game.
