Lex Therien posted her 13
th double-double of the season, and senior
Devyne Newman scored a season-high 15 points, the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team couldn't overcome some Lehigh University's long-range shooting in a 73-49 Patriot League loss at Stabler Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks broke the game opening in the second quarter when they outscored Loyola by a 21-7 margin. Lehigh entered the period by a 19-16 lead and made six of eight three-pointers to take control of the contest. The Mountain Hawks owned a 40-23 lead at halftime.
Lehigh, which made 17 of 33 three-point attempts in the win, extended its lead to 60-37 after three quarters. As a team, Lehigh shot 47.2 per cent from the field in the win.
Therien, who led the Greyhounds with 16 points and 11 rebounds, recorded her 13
th double-double of the season while shooting six-for-12 from the floor. Therien has recorded double-doubles in 11 Patriot League games.
Newman also scored a career-high 15 points against Lehigh, making seven of 11 shots from the floor.
In the game at Lehigh, Loyola played a strong first quarter and only trailed by 19-16 after the first quarter. The Greyhounds made seven of their 15 shots in the quarter. However, the Mountain Hawks opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run before
Bri Rozzi nailed a three-pointer to make it 28-19. But, MacKenzie Kramer made her third three-pointer of the quarter to give Lehigh a 40-23 advantage at the half.
Kramer led the Mountain Hawks with 23 points in the win. She made 8 of 15 shots from the floor and was 7-for-11 from three-point range. The second-leading scorer in the Patriot League, Kramer leads the league in field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage.
Senior forward Emma Grothaus added 13 points and a team high seven rebounds for Lehigh. Emma Stemmer chipped in with 11 points and Meghan O'Brien tallied 10 points.
Rozzi added seven points for Loyola.
The Greyhounds return home this week for their final two home games of the season. Loyola hosts Navy on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. before facing American University on Saturday, February 26 at 4:00 p.m.
