GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Loyola University Maryland's golf team played its first competitive round of the spring on Sunday with
Brett Inserra leading the way by shooting a 2-under 70 at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Inserra had three birdies and a bogey amongst his first seven holes to get to 2-under quickly for the day, and he matched two more birdies with the same number of over-par holes to finish as 32 golfers under par on Sunday. Inserra is tied for 15
th after 18 holes.
Brandon Berry battled back from a triple-bogey 8 on his seventh hole of the day to get to even par with five birdies on the course's front nine to sit tied for 34
th after the first day.
Nick Mejia and
Carlo Pizzano were tied for 86
th and 92
nd, respectively after rounds of 76 and 77, while
Jackson Roman is tied for 105
th at 81.
Playing as individuals,
Matt Malits shot a 1-over 73, and
Mike Crowley was at 40-over 76. Malits is tied for 49
th, Crowley for 86
th.
Play resumes with a shotgun start on Monday at 7:45 a.m. (MST). The 18-team field will play the second of three rounds beginning then.
