Spencer Earns All-Patriot League First Team Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After leading the conference in points and steals during the regular-season, Cam Spencer was named to the All-Patriot League First Team on Monday, marking the sixth-straight year a Loyola University Maryland player has been among the top honorees for the postseason awards.

Spencer enters Thursday's Patriot League Quarterfinal game at Boston University (7 p.m., ESPN+) averaging 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game, ranking in the top-12 of each category across the conference.

He joins Andre Walker (2016-17 and 2017-18), Andrew Kostecka (2018-19 and 2019-20) and Santi Aldama (2020-21) as Greyhounds players to earn All-Patriot League First Team recognition. Loyola is the only Patriot League school to have a first-team honoree each of the last six seasons.

Spencer came into the year having played in 28 of the Greyhounds' 49 games over the previous two seasons because of injury, but he quickly asserted himself as one of the Patriot League's top players this year.

By the end of the first week of December, he had four games with 20 or more points, including outings with 32 at College of Charleston and 26 versus Mount St. Mary's. Spencer then opened Patriot League games with four with 25 or more points over the first eight in conference, averaging 21.5 in those contests as Loyola go out to a 6-2 start in the league.

He scored a career-high 27 points later in the season at Holy Cross and then had two more games with 21 or more points in Loyola's last three of the regular-season. He scored in double-figures in 27 of the Greyhounds' 29 games during the regular-season.

Spencer's points and steals per game totals are first in the Patriot League. He is second in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.54:1) and free-throw percentage (.853), while he is seventh in assists and 12th in rebounds per game.

On the national landscape, Spencer was named to the Midseason Watch List for the Lou Henson Award as the nation's top mid-major player. He is sixth in NCAA Division I in total steals (66), 14th in steals per game, 26th in assist-to-turnover ratio, 33rd in total points (538), 52nd in points per game and 55th in free-throw percentage.

Spencer is one of just four players to average more than 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game this season, per Sports-Reference.com. He would also become the third Patriot League player to hold those averages since the 1992-93 season, joining Lehigh's C.J. McCollum (2011-12) and American's Sa'eed Nelson (2018-19 and 2019-20).
