Last Time Out

  • Lex Therien picked up her 10th double-double of the season and Taleah Dixon added 17 points, but Navy used a late 7-0 run to finish off a 61-54 victory over Loyola on Saturday.
  • Therien totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds while also matching a season-high with four steals. Her first 3-pointer of the season gave the Greyhounds (4-17, 1-10 PL) a 52-50 lead with 3:24 remaining in regulation.
  • The Mids responded with their deciding 7-0 stretch. A Morganne Andrews putback with 1:26 left put the home side in front for good in a contest which had 10 ties and 17 lead changes.
  • Therien hit 7 of 13 shots from the field, and she grabbed double-digit rebounds for a 10th time in the last 11 games. Dixon, who reached double figures for a fourth-straight contest and a 13th time overall on the year, matched a career best with four 3-pointers.
  • Keegan Douglas added seven points, all in the fourth quarter, Bri Rozzi dished out five assists and Charia Roberts grabbed seven boards. Loyola ended the afternoon with an 18-7 edge in offensive rebounds.
  • Jennifer Coleman led Navy with 16 points (10-12 FT) and 10 boards, while Sydne Watts and Mimi Schrader scored 13 points apiece. Neither side led by more than six points until the final 15 seconds of regulation.

Five Of A Kind

  • Loyola's Lex Therien earned her second-consecutive Patriot League Rookie of the Week Award on Monday, her fifth such recognition this season after a double-double for the second week in a row. She scored 13.5 points and grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game in contests against Army West Point and Navy.
  • Therien started the week with a 9-point, 10-rebound outing against Army West Point before she went for 18 and 10 Saturday against the Midshipmen. She also had a career-high-tying four steals at Navy.
  • Entering this season, Loyola players had earned 15 Rookie of the Week Awards since the Greyhounds joined the Patriot League in 2013-14, a total that is up to 21 with Therien's Five and Laura Salmerón's one earlier this year. Five of the previous awards were bestowed upon Therien's older sister, Isabella, the 2017-18 conference Rookie of the Year.
Staying In It Late
  • The Greyhounds have been tied, or held a lead, in the fourth quarter of 13 of their 21 games this season.
Doubled Up
  • With her 10-point, 10-rebound game on January 15 against Lehigh, Lex Therien recorded her fourth-straight double-double. She is the first Loyola player to have four in a row in 11 years since Miriam McKenzie did it four games in a row from January 22-30, 2011.
  • Therien recently wrapped up her second stretch of double doubles in at least three in a row. During the recent stretch against American, Colgate and Bucknell, she averaged 17.3 points and 12.7 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
  • This season, she has 10 double-doubles, a total that ranks No. 3 in the Patriot League and 27th nationally.
Starting Suited Her
  • Devyne Newman was in the Greyhounds starting five for the first time since January 17 last Wednesday afternoon against Army West Point, and the senior responded with her best statistical output of the season.
  • Newman went 4 of 8 from the field and finished with a season-high 11 points in 25 minutes of action. She also grabbed seven rebounds, one off her previous season-best.
Therien Among Tops In Nation In Rebounding
  • Lex Therien has made an immediate impact in her debut season, and she now leads the Greyhounds in both points (12.2) and rebounds (10.5) per game.
  • Her 10.5 rebounds per game are second in the Patriot League and are No. 27 in NCAA Division I this season. She also ranks No. 2 amongst freshmen nationally in rebounds per game, trailing only DePaul's Aneesah Morrow (13.5).
  • Per HerHoopStats.com, Therien and Morrow are the only two freshmen in Division I averaging a double-double this season, and they are two of 36 players of all years to do so.
  • Therien has grabbed 6+ rebounds in all but one contest this season, and she has 10 or more in 14 of 21 games. She has scored 10 or more points in 15 of 21 .
Dixon Second In Scoring Average
  • Taleah Dixon's 11.3 points per game are second on Loyola and rank 14th overall in the Patriot League. Dixon scored a season-high 23 points in a Dec. 4 win over Mount St. Mary's.
  • In the Greyhounds' last four games, Dixon is playing her best since a stretch in late November-early December. With 58 points over the last four, she is averaging 14.5 points to go with 3.3 assists per game.
  • Dixon also paces the Greyhounds in free throw percentage (88.1, 52-59). She is second among Patriot League shooters.
  • Dixon is one of three team captains for Loyola this season, along with Laryn Edwards and Bri Rozzi.
'Ria Stepping Up
  • Sophomore Charia Roberts saw limited action as a freshman during the shortened 2020-2021 season, playing in 13 games and averaging 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game.
  • This season, however, Roberts has averaged 27.9 minutes per game while starting all but one contest and she has responded with 7.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
  • The Baltimore County native has scored eight or more points in 10 games, and she has grabbed five or more rebounds nine times.
Using the Opportunity
  • Caramina Tañedo had played just 22 minutes over her previous seven appearances, but the sophomore made the most of extended playing time of the year to-date in the Greyhounds' Patriot League opener against Boston University.
  • She equaled those 22 minutes and scored a career-high 12 points, making four of the six 3-pointers she attempted. Her 12 points eclipsed her previous high of eight from the Greyhounds' season-opener at Niagara where she scored eight.
  • Tañedo has continued to earn more playing time for the Greyhounds and drew a season-high 36 minutes on January 22 against American. In that game, she grabbed a career-best nine rebounds.
Edwards Returns To Lineup
  • The Greyhounds got a boost to their rotation on February 2 against Army West Point when Laryn Edwards returned to the lineup after missing the previous 11 games with an injury.
  • Edwards saw 13 minutes of action against the Black Knights, her first since December 4 against Mount St. Mary's, and she finished with two points and two steals.
  • Over her career, Edwards has played in 57 games, starting 33, and has averaged 4.4 points and 1.8 assists per game.
