LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Loyola University Maryland men's golf was one of three teams to shoot under par on Tuesday, and the Greyhounds moved up two spots to take fifth overall at the 2022 Southern Invitational at The Falls Club.
Brandon Berry had four birdies on the course's back nine and three on the front to shoot a team-best 3-under 69 on Tuesday, while
Mike Crowley eagled the par-5 eighth hole and finished at even par to lead the Greyhounds with an overall tie for 16
th place.
The Greyhounds were 1-under on Tuesday and finished the 54-hole tournament at 15-over. Ohio State won the event, followed by Florida Atlantic, James Madison, Old Dominion and Loyola.
Crowley was 2-over through 14 holes on Tuesday, but he birdied the par-4 sixth hole and then recorded an eagle three on the eighth to drop to 1-under. A bogey on his final hole, the ninth, set him level with a 72, a score that continued his one-stroke improvement in each round.
The sophomore shot 74 in Monday's first round, 73 that afternoon and finished with a 72 to land at 3-over 219 overall.
Jackson Roman and
Carlo Pizzano were a shot back of Crowley and finished tied for 19
th at the tournament. Pizzano shot 1-over 73 on Tuesday, while Roman had a 3-over 75.
Berry's 3-under in the final round dropped his 54-hole score to 7-over, and he tied for 32
nd, while
Brett Inserra had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 1-over 73. He tied for 46
th overall, and
Turner Foster played as an individual and was 59
th.
The Greyhounds take the next week off before heading to the University of Virginia's Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Tournament on April 11 and 12 at the Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville.
