BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse freshman
Georgia Latch and former Greyhound All-American
Stacey Morlang Sullivan '02 have been named to the Australian Senior National Team that will compete at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Towson this June. Loyola head coach
Jen Adams will also serve as an assistant coach for the Aussies.
Â
Latch and Morlang Sullivan are among the 18 players named to the final roster, with Latch being one of five attackers and Morlang Sullivan being one of six midfielders. Latch is also one of four current college athletes on the team.
Â
This will mark the first senior national team appearance for Latch, who led the Aussies to a bronze medal at the 2019 U19 World Championships in Canada. Latch scored a team-high six goals in the bronze medal game to secure a third-place finish for her country and was named to the All-World Team for her play. Adams and Morlang Sullivan served as co-head coaches for that team.
Â
For the Greyhounds, Latch has started all seven games at attack this season. She's scored eight goals and assisted seven others for 15 points.
Â
Morlang Sullivan is a two-time Australian National Team captain. Having played in three Senior World Cups, she helped the Australians win their first-ever gold medal in 2005 and was twice named to the All-World Team (2005 and 2013). She's also served as a coach for the U19 Australian National Teams.
Â
A three-time All-American at Loyola, Morlang Sullivan was inducted into the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. She graduated in 2002 as the only player in program history to score more than 60 goals in three-consecutive seasons (2000-02). She also set the NCAA Division I single-game record at 12 goals (vs. American in 2002) and led the Greyhounds to back-to-back national semifinal appearances in 2000 and 2001. Loyola's first-ever Tewaaraton Award finalist, Morlang spent time as an assistant coach for the Greyhounds before returning to Australia.
Â
Adams played alongside Morlang Sullivan on those Australian National Teams, leading the Aussies to their first-ever gold medal in 2005 and then to a silver medal at the 2009 World Cup. She was named to the All-World Team each of those years before joining her sister, Trish, as an assistant coach for the U19 Australian National Team in 2012. Adams has guided the U19 program through three world championships, where they've claimed a silver and bronze medal.
Â
At Loyola, Adams recently became the 35th coach in NCAA history to reach 175 wins as a head coach. Her squads have captured seven Patriot League regular season titles and seven conference championships (two BIG EAST, five Patriot League), and they've advanced to the NCAA Tournament nine times.
Â
The 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship will be hosted by US Lacrosse at Towson University from June 29 – July 9.
