Tennis Teams Earn Wins Over Holy Cross, Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams kicked off a weekend of Patriot League matches at the U.S. Military Academy on Saturday, and both squads scored team wins over College of the Holy Cross and Lafayette College.
 
The Greyhounds will continue their weekend of competition on Sunday when the men take on the host Black Knights at 9 a.m. with the women facing Boston University at 12 noon.
 
Loyola Men 4, Holy Cross 2 –
 
Skyler Gates and George Cavo won their doubles match, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot over Declan O'Flynn and Matt Maggiacomo, but the Crusaders took the other two contests for the opening point.
 
Edik Pribitkin, Matt Cardano and Liam Rompere helped the Greyhounds take a 3-2 lead with wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 singles. Pribitkin downed Mikey Prokopis, 6-1, 6-2, and Cardano gave up just one point, 6-1, 6-0, to Connor Nelson. Rompere was then a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Jeremy Clark.
 
Gates sealed the win with a three-set victory over William Kelleher, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1.
 
Loyola Women 4, Holy Cross 0 –
 
The Greyhounds swept the three doubles contests with Olivia Tracey and Anna Rico getting things started with a 6-4 victory over Maddie DeNucci and Ahana Nagarkatti at No. 1. Lauren Manwiller and Jessica Bodewes were 6-3 winners against Elizabeth Gibbons and Jasime Rahman at No. 2, and Abby Decker and Genevieve Wurtz beat Caroline Fredey and Courtney Kallas, 6-2, at No. 3.
 
Rico swept Kallas, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3, and Decker did the same to Gibbons at No. 5. Tracey clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 over DeNucci.
 
Loyola Men 4, Lafayette 2 –
 
Pribitkin and Cardano pulled away for a 6-4 win over Ross Coleman and Charles Keller at No. 2 doubles, but the Leopards earned close wins at No. 1 and 3. Josh Wolfe and Nash Lovallo beat Gates and Cavo, 7-5 in the top spot, and Arman Ganchi and Luke Ritchie edged Rompere and Davey, 7-6 (3) at No. 3.
 
In singles action, Cavo beat Keller, 4-0 (retired), at No. 4, and Cardano was a 6-1, 6-0 win against Coleman at No. 3. Ryan Boland topped Ritchie, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, and Rompere put the match in the win column for the Greyhounds with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over Lovallo at No. 5.
 
Loyola Women 5, Lafayette 0 –
 
The Greyhounds closed the day with a sweep of the Leopards on the women's side. Tracey and Rico outlasted Olivia Boeckman and Maureen McCormack, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles, while Manwiller and Bodewes eased to a 6-1 win over Melanie Sparhawk and Eleanor Campbell at No. 2. Decker and Wurtz also beat Halle DeNardo and Jessica Siegel, 6-3, at No. 3.
 
Manwiller took down McCormack, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Rico was a 6-3, 6-0 winner against Siegel at No. 3. Decker topped Campbell by the same scores at No.5, and Wurtz bested DeNardo, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
