WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Loyola University Maryland's men's and women's' tennis teams both dropped just one singles match on Monday as the teams returned from Easter Break with a pair of 6-1 wins over host Rider University.
Loyola's men won all three doubles matches to take the early lead.
Skyler Gates and
George Cavo beat Pablo Carrera and Jaime de Jaraiz, 7-5, at No. 1, while
Edik Pribitkin and
Matt Cardano were 6-2 winners at No. 2 over Vishal Ganeshan and Dylan Lachmanen.
Liam Rompere and
Oliver Davey took down Nicholas Salazar and Peter Komosinski, 6-1, at No. 3.
In the singles matches, Pribitkin bested Komosinski in three, 2-6, 6-4, (10-5), at No. 2, and Caradno eased past Ganeshan, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 3. Cavo was a 6-4, 6-4 winner against Lachmanen at No. 4,and Rompere beat de Jaraiz, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5.
Ryan Boland picked up the final point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Salazar at No. 6.
The women played to the same team score with Loyola winning the two contested doubles matches.
Olivia Tracey and
Anna Rico beat Lelia Koster and Capucine Thuilot, 6-0, at No. 1, and
Lauren Manwiller and
Jessica Bodewes also were shutout winners, 6-0, at No. 2 against Angelica Garcia and Avery Oppenheim.
Abby Decker and
Genevieve Wurtz won by default at No. 3.
Tracey outlasted Koster in three, 7-6 (4), 5-7, (10-3) for a No. 1 singles win, and Manwiller also won in three, 6-4, 2-6, (10-6) at No. 2 against Thuilot.
Rico toppled Oppenheim, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, and Bodewes got past Ally Garofoli, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4. Wurtz won by default at No. 6.
