Women’s Tennis Beats Eagles In Last Match Before Patriot League Championships

BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team scored a 5-2 win on Thursday afternoon over visiting Coppin State University in the Greyhounds' final match before the Patriot League Championships start.
 
The Greyhounds will open the Championships with an 11 a.m. match against Bucknell University on Friday. Loyola earned its best seed since joining the conference in 2013-2014 at No. 4, while the Bison are seeded fifth.
 
In Thursday's match against Coppin State, the Greyhounds' No. 2 and 3 doubles teams won by matching scores of 6-0 as Lauren Manwiller and Jessica Bodewes beat Lucia Placidi and Kristine Georgieva at No. 2, and Abby Decker and Genevieve Wurtz topped MacKenzie Jones and Christy Turner at No. 3.
 
Olivia Tracey and Anna Rico were also winners in doubles, taking the No. 1 match, 6-2, over Iva Jankovic and Megan Etienine.
 
Jankovic and Georgieva scored points for the Eagles in singles play with wins over Tracey and Manwiller at No. 1 and 2 singles, but Loyola won the remainder of the matches.
 
Rico took down Placidi, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, and Bodewes was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Turner at No. 4. Decker topped Etenine, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5, and Wurtz knocked off Jones, 6-1, 6-1.
