BALTIMORE – The Loyola University SkyMaryland men's and women's tennis teams swept visiting Harford Community College on Sunday, winning both matches 7-0.
The Loyola women's team closed its season with a 14-6-1 with the victory, while the men moved to 8-8 overall.
Skyler Gates and
George Cavo combined for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles over Mathius Dessureau and Come Bulte, while
Edik Pribitkin and
Matt Cardano were 6-1 winners at No. 2 against Pablo Poleo and Paulo Reis Jr.
Oliver Davey and
Nick Haggar finished off the doubles sweep for the men's team with a 6-2 defeat of Tinashe Whata and Alexander Carlsson at No. 3.
In the singles matched, Gates outlasted Bulte, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 1, and Cavo was also a three-set winner at No. 4, beating Reis, 6-7 (8), 6-0, 6-2.
Pribitkin topped Poleo, 3-0 (retired, injury) at No. 2, and Cardano took down Dessureau, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Boland then beat Whata, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5, and Davey was a 6-1, 6-0 victor against Carlsson.
In the women's match,
Julia Thompson and
Taylor Kuncl got by Lily Holtschneider and Anna Holway, 6-1, at No. 1, and
Addison Kemerer and
Ronnie Gruseck beat Lily Tsomos and Natalia Calvo-Herrera, 6-1, at No. 2.
Olivia Tracey and
Anna Rico won by default at No. 3.
Abby Decker played No. 1 singles and beat Calvo-Herrera, 6-1, 6-1, and
Genevieve Wurtz beat Holway, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. Thompson scored a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Holtschneider at No. 3, and
Madison Metzdorf also won by a sweep against Tsomos at No. 4.
Lauren Williamson swept Gabriella Kuper, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, and Kuncl won by default at No. 6.
