BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's
Abby Decker won matches in singles and doubles on Friday afternoon, but the George Mason University women's tennis team defeated the Greyhounds, 6-1, at the McClure Tennis Center.
Decker outlasted the Patriots' Savanna Crowell, 7-6 (3), int he first set and then went on to a 6-3 win in the second to pick up the Greyhounds' point at No. 5 singles. She teamed with
Genevieve Wurtz for a 6-4 victory over Crowell and Francesca Trella at No. 3 doubles.
George Mason, however, won the other two doubles matches as Jackie Nannery and Grace Hashiguchi beat
Olivia Tracey and
Anna Rico, 6-3, at No. 1. Paige La and Hannah Yang then beat
Lauren Manwiller and
Jessica Bodewes, 6-3, at No. 2.
In the singles matches, Tracey got out to an early lead against La with a 7-5 win in the first before La came back to win in a super-tiebreaker, 6-3, (10-7), at No. 1. Hashiguchi topped Manwiller, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 and Yang was a 6-4, 6-2 winner against Rico at No. 3.
Ashley Fitz-Patrick beat Bodewes, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, and Nannery got past Wurtz, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.
