BALTIMORE –
Abby Decker fought off two match-point opportunities by her Bucknell University counterpart, and the Loyola University Maryland rallied to win a three-set affair on Sunday, securing a 4-3 win for the Greyhounds over the visiting Bison at the McClure Tennis Center.
Decker and Anna Latos split the first two sets of the No. 5 singles match with matching 6-4 scores, but Latos took a 6-5 lead in the deciding fifth set. She won the next point to force the tiebreaker and was down 5-3 and 6-4, fighting off a pair of match-point opportunities by Latos.
Decker then scored four-straight points to claim the victory, 8-6, in the tiebreaker to give the Greyhouds the win.
She was also part of a doubles triumph with
Genevieve Wurtz at No. 3 as they beat Kate Novak and Latos, 6-3. A win by Lauren Maneiller and
Jessica Bodewes, 6-4, at No. 2 over Tyne Miller and Laurel Utterback gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the match with the doubles point in hand.
Manwiller dispatched Miller at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Wurtz was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Novak at No. 5.
Bucknell tied things up with three other singles wins. Daniella Bellini, 6-2, 6-2, beat
Olivia Tracey at No. 1, Whitney King was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against
Anna Rico at No. 3, and Utterback topped Bodewes, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
The Bison claimed a 6-1 win over the Loyola men on Sunday, as well.
Liam Rompere and
Oliver Davey won, 6-1, against Per Astrom and Charlie Nordahl at No. 3 doubles, but Bucknell won the other two matches. Michael Owen and Tim Zelikovsky were 6-3 winners at No. 1 against
Skyler Gates and
George Cavo, and Nick Mueller and Nicolas Grunig beat
Edik Pribitkin and
Matt Cardano, 6-4, at No. 2.
In singles play, Rompere defeated Astrom, 6-1, 6-0, to pick up the Greyhounds' point.
Mueller was a 6-2, 6-1 winner against Gates at No. 1, while Owen topped Pribitkin, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2. Zelikovsky got past Cardano, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3, and Grunig was a 6-3, 6-3 victor at No. 4 against Cavo. Nordahl finished out the flights with a 7-6, 6-3 win over
Ryan Boland at No. 6 singles.
