BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Abby Decker capped her Loyola University Maryland women's tennis career on Wednesday with recognition on the Patriot League All-Academic Team for her work in the classroom and on the court.
 
Decker was one of six players named to the team after completing her best season on the court for Loyola while coming to the mark of graduation this weekend with high academic honors.
 
She finished the season with a 26-6 record in singles, going 7-1 against Patriot League competitors. In doubles play, she finished 16-14 overall, including a 14-7 mark with classmate Genevieve Wurtz as the two went 5-5 versus Patriot League teams. Her 26 singles wins are third-most in school single-season history.
 
Two of Decker's 26 wins provided a pair of the highlight moments for the Greyhounds as a team this year. In early April, she fought off two match-point opportunities in her singles match against Bucknell to win a three-set contest during the regular-season.
 
That victory by the team earned the Greyhounds the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Championships, the highest they have achieved since joining the conference in 2013-14.
 
In the conference quarterfinal, also against the Bison, Loyola posted its first championships victory since joining the League with Decker winning another three-set match to provide the deciding point.
 
Decker has been a standout in the classroom, as well, as the Dean's List student came into her final semester at Loyola with a grade-point average of higher than 3.85 as an accounting major. She is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and was a nominee for the Ernest Lagna Award as the top female student-athlete at the school.
 
She is the eighth player in Loyola women's tennis history to be named to the All-Academic Team since the Greyhounds entered the Patriot League.
