PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. –
Carlo Pizzano churned out pars on his last five holes and led the Loyola University Maryland golf team on the first day of the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional at the PGA National Resort Champion Course.
Pizzano came back with the pars after shooting 4-over through the first four holes of the back nine. His pars came through "The Bear Trap," the Jack Nicklaus-designed 15
th, 16
th and 17
th holes that are considered amongst the toughest on the PGA Tour including the Honda Classic that is played on the par-72, 7,048-yard course.
The junior, who tied for first at the Patriot League Championships, finished the day at 6-over 78 and is tied for 54
th.
Mike Crowley and
Brett Inserra both finished the first 18 at 9-over and tied for 66
th, while
Matt Malits and
Brandon Berry are tied for 73
rd and 74
th, respectively.
The Greyhounds return to the course on Tuesday with tee times starting at 9:20 a.m.
