RICHMOND, Va. – A pair of Loyola University Maryland swimmers – Lily Mead and Max Verheyen – were named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Second Team this week, capping a 2021-2022 season in which both earned multiple awards.
 
Mead and Verheyen were both All-Patriot League First Team honorees for their work in the pool, and they combined that honor by being named Academic All-Patriot League, as well.
 
Earlier this week, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams received Scholar All-America Team recognition from the CSCAA.
 
In the pool, Mead was the No. 4 point-scorer overall at the Patriot League Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, scoring 54 as an individual to lead the Greyhounds women. She became the second Loyola woman to win an individual title at the meet, taking top honors in the 100-yard backstroke.
 
She also was second in both the 200-yard backstroke and individual medley events. The All-Patriot League First Team honoree holds seven individual records at Loyola and has been a multiple-time Dean's List honoree at the school.
 
Mead was named the athletic department's Female Sophomore Athlete of the Year at The Iggy's, an end-of-the-year celebration of Loyola sports. She also picked up team Most Valuable Performer honors.
 
Verheyen led the Greyhounds men in scoring at the Championships, totaling 47 with three individual finishes in the top-four. He came in second in the 100-yard breaststroke and was fourth in both the 200- and 400-yard individual medleys.
 
The two-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree was also as on three school-record-setting relay teams at the Patriot League meet. Verheyen later won the program's first ECAC Championship title since 2017 when he captured the 100-yard breaststroke event.
 
The Loyola Dean's List honoree was also honored at The Iggy's with a pair of awards. He was named the Male Junior Athlete of the Year and also earned team Most Dedicated Performer honors.
