Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola Greyhounds have announced their full roster for the upcoming 2022 season. The Greyhounds will return 21 players from last years Patriot League Championship and National Tournament team.
Reigning Coach of the Year
Steve Nichols had this to say about this years team: "Really excited about this group, we return eight out of eleven starters from the group that drew with North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and we brought in a very talented class of twelve newcomers. We have to replace a couple of very talented players that led us to four straight Patriot League Regular Season Championships, and our first Patriot League Tournament Championship, but our staff did a phenomenal job on the recruiting trail this offseason. If we can stay healthy, I feel really good about this group doing some great things this fall"
Of those 21 players returning to the Greyhounds this season, it includes 8 of the 11 starters from their first round matchup against North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. The returners are highlighted by  2021 First Team All-Patriot League selections
Jordy Luchies and
Kelan Swales. Luchies returns to the team in which he was the only player to start all 20 games last season, and also led the team in minutes played. As for Swales, he led the Greyhounds in goals last season with 8 goals on the season, including 3 game winners. Other notable players returning this season for the Greyhounds include;
Matthew Lala,
Albert Kang,
Daniel Tshiani,
Jake Mayer,
Eddy Rodriguez, and
Loc San.Â
On top of the experience the Greyhounds have returning this season, they also bring in a talented class of newcomers, that tallies 12 players in total. The Greyhounds will look to couple their returners experience, along with their newcomers youth in order to defend their 2021 regular season and postseason Patriot League Championships. Last year marked the fourth straight season that the Greyhounds won the Patriot League regular season championship. The Greyhounds will however have to fill the shoes of four-time Goalkeeper of the Year
Chase Vosvick, as well as two-time Midfielder of the Year
Justin Ingram.Â
The Greyhounds will begin the 2022 season with a pair of road games as they will travel to face North Carolina State on August 26th, before traveling to face Delaware on August 29th. The Greyhounds will have their home opener on September 2nd as they will host Old Dominion. They begin their Patriot League schedule when they travel to face Army West Point on September 17th. Their conference home opener will come on September 24th when they host Lehigh.Â
