BALTIMORE -- The Loyola Greyhounds women's soccer team hosted the Drexel Dragons on Thursday night at Ridley Athletic Complex for their home season opener. The Dragons scored two first half goals as the Greyhounds went on to lose their home opener 3-1.
Baylee DeSmit scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds in the 81st minute as she got a pass from
Olivia Quaranta and manged to dribble past a couple of Dragon defenders, putting the ball past the Dragons goalie for her first goal of the season.
The Dragons managed to get on the board early in the game as Delaney Lappin scored six minutes into the game to give the Dragons an early lead. Isabel Kuzy added to the Dragons lead in the 34th minute to put them up 2-0 at the half. Drexel added its last goal of the game in the 54th minute as Casey Touey scored for the Dragons.
Kelly Hutton had a Loyola-high with two shots on the night, as
Sarah Mirr and
Baylee DeSmitt had the only other shots for the Greyhounds. Freshman defender
Zoe Willis was the lone position player that played all 90 minutes for the Greyhounds. Freshman
Payton Hurley, Delaney Demartino, and
Malia Tarazon all tallied their first appearance for the Greyhounds, as well as sophomore
Riley Kennel and sophomore transfer
Michaela Virgin.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Sunday as they will travel to take on #4 Virginia at 6:00 PM. The Greyhounds will then travel to face Rice on August 25th, before returning to Ridley to host Youngstown State on August 28.
