BALTIMORE –
Kelly Hutton scored twice, and the Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team posted a 4-0 non-conference win over visiting Youngstown State Sunday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Hutton's two-goal game was the first of her career, while
Alex Searing also had the first goal of her collegiate career in the win.
Loyola (2-2 overall) got out to a lead in the third minute of the contest when Jess Kroman sent a long ball ahead of the place from the Greyhounds' back line.
Baylee DeSmit ran onto the connection and put a perfect cross into the six that Hutton redirected into the net.
Sarah Mirr stretched the lead to 2-0 less than seven minutes later when she rocketed a ball from nearly 30 yards out into the upper, left corner of the net past the outstretched hands of Penguins goalkeeper Brooklynn Kirkpatrick.
Loyola continued to pressure the Penguins (0-4), going into halftime with a 7-4 advantage in shots.
The Greyhounds quickly put up two more goals early in the second half.
Searing recorded the first of her career in the 56
th minute, as she headed a
MK Barnes free kick from the left side to make it 3-0 Greyhounds.
Hutton then headed a
Payton Hurley corner kick for her second goal of the day less than five minutes later. The assist was the first of Hurley's career.
Youngstown State's best scoring chance came in the 72
nd minute when the Penguins drew a penalty kick.
Paige Sim, however, made a diving save of a hard attempt by Regan LaVigna. The rebound came back out to LaVigna, but her second attempt went high.
Sim made eight saves in 81 minutes of play, while
Anna Miller completed the clean sheet with a scoreless nine minutes of action.
Loyola's four goals on Sunday were its most in 364 days since the Greyhounds had a 5-1 win over Iona on August 29, 2021.
The Greyhounds continue their five-match homestand on Thursday, September 1, against Columbia in a 7 o'clock contest.
