West Point, NY -- The Loyola Greyhounds men's soccer team traveled to face the Army West Point Black Knights on Saturday night. After falling behind 2-0, the Greyhounds attempted to mount a comeback, but dropped their season opener 2-1.
Both teams had ample opportunities in the first half, as they both had 7 shots in the half. The Black Knights managed to convert in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. From there, the Greyhounds could not equalize in the first half as they trailed 1-0 in the first half.
The second half was similar to the first, as both teams had chances early in the second half. Once again, the Black Knights managed to find the back of the net in the 57th minute, to take a 2-0 lead. The Greyhounds had their fair share of chances throughout the half, but could not convert. Not untill, the Black Knights goalie Tomas Hut was called for a red card right outside the box, and
Danilo Seglio was able to convert on a free kick to make it a 2-1 game in the 81st. In the last 9 minutes, the Greyhounds attempted a comeback, but fell short as they lost their conference opener 2-1.
Alex Bobocea posted 3 saves on the night for the Greyhounds, while
Albert Kang led the team with 5 shots on the night, while
Kelan Swales had 3 shots. The Greyhounds will be back in action on Tuesday September 20th as they travel to face Princeton at 7:00 PM.
