USA Lacrosse Magazine released its Preseason All-American teams on Tuesday afternoon, and Loyola's
Jillian Wilson and
Katie Detwiler were named Preseason First Team All-American, while
Sydni Black and
Georgia Latch received Honorable Mention nods.
Wilson returns to the Greyhounds for her fifth season with the team in 2023 and is coming off of an career season for the Greyhounds when she tallied 48 goals and 13 assists in 2022. Wilson's great year did not go unnoticed as she was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Year, earned spots on the
USA Lacrosse Magazine and IWLCA All-America second teams, and she was a member of the Tweaaraton Award Watch List. Wilson is also a two-time All-Patriot League First Team selection who has started in all 42 games she has played since her sophomore season.Â
Detwiler also returns to the Greyhounds for her fifth season with the team in 2023 and has been a crucial part of the Greyhounds defense, having started 63 games over her career with the Greyhounds. Detwiler has gained national recognition throughout her career, as she is a two-time IWLCA All-American ('22 First Team, '21 Second Team), Tewaaraton Award Top-25 Semifinalist and three-time
ILWomen All-American. She is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year in the Patriot League and  and two-time First Team All-Patriot League honoree while being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week 11 times.Â
Black comes into her junior season after starting in all 21 games she played in during her sophomore year. Black made a huge jump for the Greyhounds last year, improving her goals scored by 31, going from eight as a freshman in 2021 to 39 last season, good for fifth on the team as a sophomore. She was also named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, and after the season, she was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team.Â
Latch looks to follow up her successful freshman season in which she started all 22 games for the Greyhounds. Latch ranked 2nd in points (76) for Loyola, only behind
Livy Rosenzweig, and she was named to the IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and All-Patriot League First Team, while gathering Patriot League Rookie of the Year recognition. During the World Championships over the summer, Latch led her native Australia with a team-high 12 goals, while also assisting on seven and was a crucial part of the Aussies earning the Bronze Medal at the World Games.Â
The Greyhounds come off of a 2022 season in which they finished with a 20-2 overall record with an trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Greyhounds begin the 2023 campaign with a matchup against Johns Hopkins at Ridley Athletic Complex on February 18.
