Andrews, Perry Score 20-Plus In Men’s Hoops Win Over Bucknell

BALTIMORE – Jaylin Andrews made 7 of 8 shots from the field and 9 of 12 from the free-throw line to score a season-high 24 points on Saturday afternoon in an 80-66 Loyola University Maryland men's basketball win over visiting Bucknell University in Patriot League action.

Deon Perry added 20 points to give the Greyhounds two players with 20 or more points for the first time since the final game of the 2020 season. Alonso Faure finished with 12 points, and Golden Dike added 10, and the two starting post players combined for 10 rebounds with five each.

Thirteen Loyola steals led to 20 Bucknell turnovers with Andrews, Perry, Kenneth Jones and Chris Kuzemka each grabbing three steals.

Loyola trailed for only 22 seconds in the game after scoring the contest's first nine points and taking a 14-2 lead just over six minutes in on a Veljko Ilic basket in the paint. Bucknell, however, got its deficit to two by scoring 14 of 16 points, but at 8:35, Perry knocked down one of his four 3-pointers to extend the lead back to nine, 25-16.

The Bison had another run in them to pull within one late in the first half before going to the locker room down 35-33.

Jack Forrest hit a three 26 seconds into the second half to put Bucknell in front 36-35, but Faure grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on Loyola's ensuing possession, and he knocked down a three 54 ticks of the clock later to put Loyola in front for good.

Bucknell got it back to a one-point game, 50-49, with two Josh Adoh free throws at 10:53. Perry and Kuzemka hit back-to-back 3-pointers, and Loyola's lead was back to seven as part of a 13-4 Loyola run that would see the Greyhounds go up 63-53 after two steals led to a Dike dunk and an Andrews layup.

Andrews' 24-point effort eclipsed the 23 he scored in November at Penn State University. It marks his second 20-plus point game of the year and the 11th of his career.

Loyola shot 52.9 percent from the field and held Bucknell to 42.4 percent. The Greyhounds made half of their 14 3-point attempts, while they held the Bison to 9 of 27 from behind the arc.

A Monday game brings a quick turnaround for Loyola as they head to Hamilton, New York, to face Colgate University in a 7 p.m. game on January 30 which will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
