West Point, NY -- The Loyola Maryland Greyhounds trailed by four points heading into halftime in West Point against Army. The Greyhounds came out of halftime and dominated the Black Knights in the second half, as they outscored them 40-17, en route to an 67-48 road win to move to 7-7 (2-1).
The second half was dominated by
Taleah Dixon,
Koi Sims and
Lex Therien. Dixon scored 13 of her 20 points in the second half, Sims scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half, and Therien scored 9 of her 15 points in the second half. In total, the three combined for 32 of the teams 40 points in the second half.
With 7:16 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Black Knights cut the Greyhounds lead to six points, as the Greyhounds led 52-46. From there, the Greyhounds went on an 15-2 over the next seven minutes to pull ahead and close out the Black Knights.
The Greyhounds started the third quarter strong, as they were quickly able to cut into the Black Knights lead. A Dixon layup with 5:52 remaining in the quarter, gave the Greyhounds an 34-33 lead. They did not hold the lead long however, as the Black Knights answered quickly to retake the lead. Down the stretch of the third quarter, teams traded baskets, as neither team could pull ahead. That is until Dixon hit a three-pointer with :24 seconds remaining to take a 47-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Taleah Dixon had a game high 20 points on the night, while also adding four assists and three rebounds. She shot 8-12 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range on the night.
Lex Therien had 15 points and seven rebounds on the night, while also adding two assists. Therien shot 7-13 on the night.
Koi Sims had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one block on the night. Sims was an efficient 6-8 from the field.
The Greyhounds led the majority of the second quarter, until the Black Knights went on an 6-0 run over the final :45 seconds of the quarter, as they took an 31-27 lead into halftime. The Greyhounds shot above 50% in the half, but turned the ball over 13 times.
The Black Knights jumped out to an 9-2 lead in the first quarter, after an Lithgow three-pointer with 4:35 remaining. The Greyhounds managed to responded coming out of the media timeout, as they went on an 9-0 run to take an 11-9 lead, before the Black Knights hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to take an 12-11 lead into the second quarter.
The Greyhounds will be back in action this Sunday, as they will host Holy Cross in Retiz Arena at 2:00 pm.
