Roman Finishes T-2 As Golf Takes Second At Georgetown Intercollegiate

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Jackson Roman finished tied for second individually at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, leading Loyola University Maryland golf to a second-place team finish at Woodmont Country Club.

The Greyhounds finished second in a 13-team field behind only defending NCAA Champion Florida. Loyola shot 6-over 294 during Monday's windy third round and finished 17-over 881 for the tournament.

Roman came into Monday's final round tied for eighth, but he shot 2-under 70 and moved into a tie for second overall at 1-under of the tournament. He birdied three of his last five holes on Monday, and his 70 was the second-best score posted in the final round. The tie for second was the best finish of his collegiate career, beating the tie for eighth he posted at The Doc Gimmler, this season's opening tournament.

He was one of three Loyola players to finish in the top-10 of the tournament that featured 75 players. Gustavo Rangel, who played as an individual for the Greyhounds, had a colorful card Monday and tied for sixth. He started on the 10th hole and posted five bogeys on his first nine holes, making the turn at 5-over Monday and 6-over for the tournament. Rangel flipped that script, however, and birdied five of nine holes on the front nine and was even for the day and 1-over in total.

Mike Crowley posted one of two eagles in the tournament on the 540-yard uphill par-5 third hole, and he then had four more birdies on his first 10 holes. He finished in a tie for eighth overall at 2-over.

Lorenzo Sanz tied for 20th in the tournament at 8-over after shooting 2-over Monday. He was 3-over through 16 holes in the final round, but he filtered his approach down a hill on the 17th green to within three feet for a birdie.

James Rico finished in a tie for 33rd at 14-over, and Carlo Pizzano was a shot back and tied for 35th.

The Greyhounds will be off next week before playing its first-ever international tournament. Loyola will take part in the Monterrey International Intercollegiate in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, October 27-28.
