Baltimore --
Tyler Tucker and
Jordy Luchies scored in the first half for Loyola University Maryland men's soccer, and the Greyhounds improved to 5-0-2 in Patriot League play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Holy Cross on Saturday evening at Ridley Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Greyhounds are now unbeaten in their last 13 games, which is their longest streak since 2008, when they went 19 games unbeaten.
"Tough game, Lafayette plays harder than anyone on our schedule," said Head Coach
Steve Nichols. "Credit to Coach Dennis Bohn his guys play for him. But our guys have answered the bell all year. Unbeaten since August 27th and 4 straight shutouts, I couldn't be any prouder of the boys."
Tyler Tucker got the scoring started for the Greyhounds (6-1-8 overall, 5-0-2 Patriot League), as he intercepted a ball that was hit back to the Leopards (7-5-3 overall, 4-2-1 Patriot League) and took it himself, as he shot it to the bottom right for his first career goal.
Both teams went back and forth following the Greyhounds goal, but neither team could find the back of the net. In the 38th minute,
Jake Sweeney drew his third penalty of the season, as he drew a foul inside of the box.
Jordy Luchies stepped up and drilled the ball in the top right corner, as the Greyhounds took a 2-0 first half lead.
Neither team had a good look on goal to start the second half, as both defenses held strong. The Leopards had their best chance of the night, as Benji Grossi's shot was saved by
Dylan Van der Walt to maintain the shutout. From there, the Greyhounds held the Leopards to only one shot in the last 26 minutes of game time, as the Greyhounds held on to win 2-0.
The Greyhounds recorded their fourth straight shutout, and their seventh shutout of the season.
The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League play next Saturday at 1:00 PM, with a big matchup agaisnt Boston.
