Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Greyhounds Remain Perfect in Patriot League Play, as Men's Soccer Wins 2-0 Over Holy Cross

Baltimore -- Jordy Luchies and Charlie Herley scored in each half for Loyola University Maryland men's soccer, and the Greyhounds improved to 4-0-1 in Patriot League play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Holy Cross on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Greyhounds are now unbeaten in their last ten games, which is their longest streak since 2008, when they went 19 games unbeaten.

"Gutsy win for the boys," said Head Coach Steve Nichols. "Coming off a 1-1 tie on the road against the #3 team in the country and on the road with all that travel the guys found a way today. You could see we had heavy legs but they found a way to get a result. Very proud of this group. They are fighters, unbeaten since August 27th, that says something!"

Luchies got the Greyhounds (4-1-7 overall, 4-0-1 Patriot League) on the board in the 33rd minute, as he converted his third penalty kick of the season. He shot the ball high and to the right, just over the diving Crusaders goalkeeper.

His goal was an exclamation mark on a strong first half for the Greyhounds, that saw them total 11 shots in the half, four of them coming on goal. The Crusaders (4-7-2 overall, 1-3-1 Patriot League) tallied four saves in the first half, including a goal line clearance from a Crusaders defender.

The Greyhounds pace slowed in the second half, only tallying two shots in the second half. Despite this, they managed to control the possession and the momentum, holding the Crusaders to only four shots.

In the 87th minute, the Greyhounds had another successful counter attack, as after a Holy Cross free kick, Jordy Luchies possessed the ball, and sent a long pass to Charlie Herley, who managed to chip the ball just over the goalkeeper for his first career goal.

Dylan Van der Walt and the Loyola defense recorded their fourth clean cheat of the season.

Loyola will continue Patriot League play next Saturday, as they will travel to face off against Lehigh at 6:00 PM.
