Bethlehem -- The Patriot League released their weekly awards on Monday afternoon, as Loyola Maryland's
Jordy Luchies,
Dylan Van der Walt, and
Giovanni Marquina earned weekly awards.
This is Luchies' second Patriot League weekly award, but first defensive player of the week. This is also Marquina's first weekly award, as this is Van der Walt's second goalkeeper of the week this season.
Luchies played a crucial role on the Greyhounds back line, as the Greyhounds held No. 3 West Virginia to just won goal in their 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening. In the win over Holy Cross, Luchies had a point in each goal, scoring on a penalty kick, before assisting on
Charlie Herley's late goal to seal a 2-0 win.
Van der Walt was crucial in goal, allowing just one goal in two games. He had three saves against the Mountaineers, to go along with crucial plays on corners and crosses. In the win over Holy Cross, he had a lone save for his fourth shutout of the season.
Marquina scored his first career goal against No. 3 West Virginia, as his equalizer proved to be a crucial goal, as the Greyhounds battled to a 1-1 draw against the Mountaineers.
The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League action on Saturday, as they will travel to Lehigh for a 6:00 PM kick-off.
