COLUMBIA, Mo. –
Alonso Faure made 6 of 7 shots and matched his career-high with 18 points on Saturday morning, and his dunk early in the second half cut the University of Missouri's lead to three, but the Tigers pulled away for a 78-70 victory.
D'Angelo Stines slipped a pass to Faure in the paint, and he elevated for a dunk over two Missouri defenders to pull Loyola within three, 41-38, and after a Tigers turnover, the Greyhounds had a 3-pointer from the corner that would have tied the game, but it rimmed out.
Missouri went back up by seven at 14:54, but
Golden Dike scored in the paint, and
Milos Ilic grabbed an offensive rebound on the next possession, was fouled and made two free throws to pull the Greyhounds within a pair, 47-45, at 12:53.
The Tigers scored 12 of the next 13 points and the lead stretched back to 59-46 with a Nick Honor three at 10:07.
Faure was one of four Greyhounds to score in double figures with Stines scoring 14,
David Brown III adding 11 and
Deon Perry tallying 10.
Loyola had a 41-34 advantage in rebounding over the Southeastern Conference team. Faure was one off his season-high with eight points, Dike had seven and Ilic and Stines scored six.
Noah Carter led Missouri with 18 points, and Sean East II scored 17.
The Greyhounds continue play on the road Wednesday, November 29, with a 7 p.m. game in New York City at Columbia University.
