Lex Therien recorded a first half double-double for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon, but a 14-0 run to start the second half by Toledo University allowed the hosts to pull away for a 65-35 non-conference win.
Both teams struggled from the floor over the first five minutes of the game, as the Greyhounds (4-5 overall) led 2-0 at the first media timeout, thanks to an
Ava Therien jumper. The Rockets scored nine points over the last three minutes of the quarter, as
Lex Therien scored on a layup to cut their deficit to three points at the end of the quarter.
After the Rockets (5-2 overall) took an 11-point lead in the second quarter, the Greyhounds scored on back-to-back possessions, coming from
Marta Espinal and
Lex Therien, to cut their deficit back to seven points. They could not cut any farther into the lead, as they trailed by 13-points at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Toledo started the half strong, going on a 14-0 run to take an 43-16 lead with 5:23 left in the third quarter. The Greyhounds were outscored by the Rockets 40-19 in the second half, as they lost on the road 65-35.
Lex Therien had a game-high 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Marta Espinal recorded two points and an assist in her first action of the year, as she came back from injury.
Sophia Wiard led the Rockets with 13 points on the afternoon.
The Greyhounds have a 12-day break before they travel to face off against Monmouth on December 22.
