Amandine Amorich scored a career-high 10 points on the afternoon, including six straight points in the second quarter on Friday afternoon for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team, but Monmouth University used a third quarter run to pull away for a 63-50 non-conference win.
Amorich scored on a driving layup with 6:41 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the Greyhounds (4-6 overall) deficit down to just six points.
The Hawks (6-4 overall) answered on the ensuing possession, however, as Kaci Donovan hit a three-pointer to retake a nine point lead.
Kimmie Hicks scored on a jump shot with 1:21 remaining in the fourth to cut the Loyola deficit back down to eight points, but the Greyhounds could not cut down the deficit any further, as the Hawks held on to win.
Kelly Ratigan knocked down a mid range jump shot on the Greyhounds first possession of the third quarter to take a 33-32 lead. From there, however, Monmouth used a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes of game time to pull away from the visiting Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds started the first quarter strong, opening up to a 8-5 lead at the 6:04 mark in the first quarter after a Ratigan three-pointer. They continued their strong start throughout the first quarter, as a pair of Amorich free throws gave them a 18-15 lead after the first quarter.
Lex Therien finished the day with 12 points and 13 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Laura Salmeron had 10 points on the day, while Amorich tallied 10 points off the bench. Ratigan finished with nine points on the day.
Kaci Donovan had 18 points and Jania Hall had 15 points for Monmouth.
The Greyhounds will close out non-conference play on December 30 with a trip to face Delaware State at 2:00 PM.
