Lex Therien scored the game-winning layup with 12 seconds remaining for Loyola University Maryland women's basketball, as the Greyhounds battled back for a 66-64 road win over Delaware State University in a non-conference matchup.
Therien became the 24th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points in a career. She eclipsed the mark in just 70 games, which is the second fastest in program history (Patty Stoffy '95).

On the ensuing possession,
Amandine Amorich blocked a Hornets three point attempt with five seconds remaining. The Hornets (4-9 overall) had one last look, but the Greyhounds defense came up big once again, as they held on for the 66-64 victory. Loyola outscored Delaware State 23-5 in the fourth quarter comeback.
To start the fourth quarter, Loyola went on a 15-0 run, which included three
Kelly Ratigan three-pointers, as Loyola cut their deficit down to just one point, as they trailed 59-58.
After a Hornets basket, Therien scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Greyhounds (5-6 overall) a 62-61 lead with 2:33 remaining in the quarter.
After another Therien basket, the Hornets' Kiarra Mcelrath made a three pointer to tie the game at 64-64. After a pair of stops for both teams, Therien scored the game-winning layup.
Loyola started the second half down by nine points, as both teams traded baskets to start the quarter. Despite the back and forth, the Greyhounds could not cut into the Hornets lead, as they went into the fourth quarter down by 16.
Lex Therien had a game-high 27 points, with 12 coming in the fourth quarter, while
Kelly Ratigan added 14 points in the game.
Kiarra Mcelrath had a team high 18 points for the Hornets.
The Greyhounds will begin Patriot League play on Wednesday, as they will host Colgate at 7:00 PM.
